Denial
I just had the strangest watercooler conversation I’ve had in five years with our comptroller, who has probably said 30 minutes’ worth of words to me since I’ve worked here. As I slid toward the bubbler he said he needed water, blocked my way, and told how precious water was… and how an Englishman just bought an island somewhere where he was able to walk into waist-deep...

My thoughts on yesterday’s game over here.

My best practical joke
I played my best practical joke in the first second of my life, and I played it on my dad.
The Super Bowl used to be played in mid-January, right around my mom’s due date. My dad grew up in Denver, and in 1978 the Broncos were better than they’d ever been. One can only guess the emotions of watching your favorite team march toward destiny at the same time your first child is about...
It’s ten years later and most of it is set in Europe. I don’t want to give away...

Note to self
It’s okay to mess up at work. Everyone does it. Just keep the screwups small, even if your bosses don’t think there are such things as small mistakes.
But perhaps you should time these screwups so that they are discovered on days OTHER than the day before Christmas and your birthday, don’t you think?
Ho ho ho. La la la.

Realizing that Tumblr is not the place to be all wordsy all the time, I wrote something about Twitter on my main blog, if you’re into that type of thing.

Playing Around
(also from the Drafts folder)
On the grind, on the make, on the hustle, on the town, on the scene, on the job, on a business trip, on a bus, on a train, on a boat, on a plane, on vacation, on holiday, en Français, on a baguette, on a roll, on wheat, on white, on rye, on a return flight, on one cup of coffee, on two cups of coffee, on three cups of coffee, on green tea, on the juice fast, on...

Monopoly and France
(Cleaning on the drafts folder, vol. iii: I go to France, come back, watch commercials, write blogs.)
For those of you who didn’t already read it 100 times on my Twitter feed, I went to France recently. On my first weekend there I decided to go to the Luxembourg Gardens to drink wine outside. There were a good number of tourists there but there were a large number of French people, too,...

On second thought, maybe Ed Rendell was right
The race I was supposed to run Saturday morning was moved to Sunday morning, thus screwing up a pretty streamlined Saturday. I take it all back. Nation of wusses, activate!

Don Draper is Method Man (Season 4 Recap)
(We’re clearing out the Drafts folder. This is the Man Men season recap from, you know, whenever.)

“What is that effect you have over people, Eunice? Where does it come from? How does your smile reduce one of the most powerful men in the hemisphere to a dopey teenager? It’s like I feel that together we can redeem whatever misery we encountered on this planet, whatever...
brianvan asked: Yes, McGuire and Alomar are technically unrelated in entry criteria and both seemingly deserving (minus certain semi-relevant facts). The thing is, the writers are fully aligned against McGuire, but they happily induct Alomar (who is a scumbag at the very least). It's a complicated morality structure that I don't understand in the least.

Apartments and relationships
(This is the first of a few articles that have been hanging out in my drafts folder for a few months. This is from the summer.)
By any reasonable measure, the people who live in New York are exceptional. It’s true if nothing else than mathematically: there are two and three-quarters more people in this city than any other in the country, so you can play the numbers game if you want to be...

Cleaning out the Drafts folder
There’s a “(7)” next to my Drafts folder. I’m going to start cleaning it out over the next few days. Topics include the Mad Men season finale with SCDP as the Wu-Tang Clan, apartment hunting and relationships, going to Europe, and political stuff. I believe the political one is called “Our Stupid Country.”
Alright then.
